In response to a suggestion from one of our members, Pharmig are launching an annual microbiology apprentice of the year award. We want to recognise the contribution made by apprentices to our industries and to encourage more companies to employ them.
The Modern Apprenticeship Service combines practical training in work with study, leading to industry recognised qualifications up to degree level. Working as an apprentice gives people the chance to earn a real wage, while being trained in the skills that employers want. Employers also benefit from the arrangement, as depending on the size of the company they can get government support for up to 95% of the cost of training.
Pharmig is looking for apprentices who have made an outstanding contribution to the pharmaceutical or healthcare industries. Nominees must have been working as an apprentice in technical role for at least a year. The role must have a strong emphasis on microbiology, but it is not necessarily restricted to the laboratory. The winner will be selected by the Pharmig committee and will receive:
- Pharmig publications of their choice to the value of £180
- Attendance at a Pharmig meeting of their choice (delegate fee only)
- An article about the winner will be published in the Pharmig newsletter
Nominations open on 01 December 2019 and close on 01 March 2020. Nominees must be still completing their apprenticeship or have finished within the last 12 months on 01 March 2020.
